When a prominent African-American criminal defense attorney is murdered in downtown Los Angeles, Harry Bosch get assigned the case. Unfortunately, the primary suspects are elite detectives in the city’s Robbery Homicide Division. The case is a political loser. If he arrests a cop, he loses the respect of his fellow officers. If he doesn’t arrest a cop, the city will erupt in a riot.Oh, and Bosch’s year-old marriage is falling apart.Angels Flight is Michael Connelly’s sixth Harry Bosch novels, and like the previous ones, I couldn’t put it down. Connelly writes a tight, well-paced whodunit. The twists and turns of the investigation keep your eyes glued to the page even as your empathy for the investigator grows because of his personal crisis. You want Bosch to solve the crime and save his marriage. But can he really do both?Connelly has his pulse on the post-Rodney King antipathy between Los Angeles’ black residents and the LAPD. This lends verisimilitude to the novel’s portrait of rogue police officers, race hustlers, and bureaucratic fixers. In the end, everyone gets what they want, though not in the way they expected. Angels Flight is a great read, probably the best of the first six installments in Connelly’s twenty-novel Bosch series.

Harry Bosch and his teammates, Jerry Edgar and Kiz Rider, inherit a murder case loaded with booby traps that could have far reaching consequences for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). A prominent black attorney, Howard Elias, is murdered while a passenger on the Angels Flight trolley. Elias has been working on a legal defense for a man accused of kidnapping and murdering a young girl in a terrible manner. Elias’ murder fans the flames of racial hatred causing riots and looting in different parts of the city. Many people believe that members of the LAPD were responsible for his death. The situation reminded me of Rodney King who was beaten severely in 1991 by the LAPD which resulted in terrible race riots. The parents of the murdered girl are quite wealthy. The father, Sam Kincaid, owns many car dealerships around the Los Angeles area and uses bizarre advertising techniques to bring in business. He reminded me of an actual Southern California car dealer, Cal Worthington, whose slogan set to music was, “Go See Cal, Go See Cal.” Several more murders ensue and the FBI is brought in to help the LAPD. Besides having to work with the FBI and other “unfriendly” police departments, Harry Bosch has a personal problem which causes minor distractions at times; his wife Eleanor is unhappy with their marriage and is threatening to leave him. This area of the story is a rather weak one and we never learn exactly what Eleanor’s real problem is. Altogether it’s a fascinating story with a complex plot that will keep you turning pages until the surprise ending unfolds.

There are few angels to be found in Michael Connelly's broodling twisted Angels Flight. Outwardly the investigation of the murder of a prominent black lawyer on the edge of a case which would blacken LA"s Police Department the story looks into his flaws as well as the unsavoury aspects of some of LA's finest. The tale has many turns and twists and new characters emrge throughout the book. As lead detective in the case Bosch is in the middle of all the mud and a strikingly downer of an ending. Connelly successfully makes us feel the need for a long hot shower after reading Angels Flight.

Michael Connelly has to be one of the finest thriller and detective authors ... his work cannot be put down once the reading is initiated. Collecting all of his books, slowly but surely... Harry Bosch is a finely tuned character with a true sense of realism, conflicts, successes and disappointments. Also, the Bosch TV series is also a winner, perhaps because of the fine lead actor and the fact that Connelly is an executive producer of the series.

Harry Bosch has always been introspective and introverted: that is part of his mystique and charm. In "Angels Flight" his partner, Kiz Rider, lovingly refers to him as being one of those "morose detectives who never say much of anything to anybody." However, in this novel Harry is even more morose, more soul-searching than in most that I have read. There are the usual ruminations about his tragic childhood and the references to his experiences in Vietnam. But in just about every other chapter, Bosch takes a close look at himself. Here are just two examples:"The idea of a man leaving his mark with the one shot he's given appealed to him... he had the feeling that it was still out there waiting for him. He had yet to take his one shot.""He knew somehow that he would be spared, that the righteous man was beyond the grasp of the fallen."There are plenty of reasons for this constant self-inspection in "Angels Flight": his marriage to Eleanor Wish is rapidly dissolving; his actions might set the whole city on fire, literally; and his friendship with an old partner is heading down a very, very dangerous path. And all this gravitates around a brutal execution on a Los Angeles landmark, the Angels Flight. Bosch is quick to grasp that angels can fly two ways: upward to heaven or downward with the other fallen angels.Time and again, Michael Connelley has proven himself to be one of our generation's most gifted writers. He is not just a mystery/crime novelist. And "Angels Flight" is as much a brilliant literary work as anything else that came out that year.

These novels are as engrossing as anything I have read. Each one wraps me in the contemporary noir of L.A. crime drama. I finish one and pick up another. The Amazon series turned me on to thee books and has the same feel as the books to me. I hope Michael Connelly is writing faster than I can read cause I don't know what I will do when I read the last one. Start over I guess.

Master storyteller Amy Tan’s new memoir, WHERE THE PAST BEGINS, is a gift to readers and writers alike. She brings us along as she riffles through bins of stuff saved and collected, the stuff that holds pieces of us, that guards bits of our history. Through memories and reflections, journal entries, photographs and correspondence, through segments called “Quirks” and “Interludes,” Tan takes us into her mind, her heart --- into her past.Tan takes her history and unravels it, examines it and weaves it back together into a meaningful understanding of herself and, more broadly, of humanity. From the first words of the introduction, we are reminded of Tan’s command of story, the poetry of her writing, the joy in her use of metaphor. WHERE THE PAST BEGINS is generous, honest and raw. Tan lays herself out, revealing vulnerabilities and traumas, insecurities and self-doubt, and a wide-open view into her creative spirit and view of the world. This memoir feels like we are joining Tan in digging into old family archives, unfurling documents, photos and clues into her family history. The words are confessions and reflections on her upbringing, relationships and formative years, with the perspective of time. Musings and observations from Tan in her 20s, 40s and 50s are beautifully juxtaposed, displaying the growth of a woman and the shifts that come with age.Throughout the book, Tan uses the lens of a woman in her 60s as she analyzes what makes her who she is. In the collection of family artifacts, she uncovers mistruths, secrets and twists in the family lore. Tan grew up with a critical mother, and her constant threats of suicide lead her to be vigilant and unsettled. Tan writes, “I am intolerant of people who dangle threats and uncertainty as power…. And yet much of my writing, I realize, is about uncertainty --- the heartbreaking moments when something is not clear, when the situation is changing, when a truth turns into a half-truth and then a lie.”Tans gives us a glimpse into her creative understandings, impressions and discoveries. She shares the kernels of her life that developed into fiction, her insights into human nature that became the rich cast of characters in her treasured, bestselling stories. She says, “My characters are witness to what I went through.”As a fan and reader of Tan’s novels, it was a privilege to be invited inside the exploration of her past, her life and the journey of her own continued self-discovery. As a writer, I marveled at how she digs deeper and deeper into her mind, excavating long-buried memories. She takes the reader with her into her study of brain function and using emotions to uncover things not remembered. In reading, as in life, we search for meaning and commonality. Tan talks about a recurring dream she has of finding an extra room in her house. The details vary, but I have an eerily similar dream that visits me regularly and has for decades. I’ve heard of this same dream from an unusual number of people. Another thread that touched me was from her journal, aged 25, in which she shares a quirk that I could completely understand. She talks about observing a sliver of someone’s life and then extrapolating and inventing things around it. I do this and make myself dizzy with the notion that I’ve witnessed a moment in a stranger’s life, a moment they would assume had gone unnoticed and would never know I shared it, even for a second.WHERE THE PAST BEGINS is a must-read for Amy Tan admirers. You’ll feel like you’re with a dear old friend sharing her stories with you in the most personal way. Your heart will touch hers. You’ll see the undeniable strength she’s drawn from her traumatic childhood and how she’s extracted her nuanced grasp of human motivation.Reviewed by Leah DeCesare

Opposite of Fate, Amy Tan's other nonfiction book, is one of my favorite books by her, so naturally I had to pick up Where the Past Begins. I sat down to read the essay "How I Learned to Read," expecting cozy musings about, I dunno, Beatrix Potter, but it suddenly turned into a rollercoaster ride of a read, and I was almost shouting out loud as I read it! To think I thought that Tan had told all the stories she possibly could about her family. Her essays on writing are illuminating and honest, where she even very candidly discusses her failures, and even her work emails to her editor are pleasant to read; for someone who has had a crazy life as Amy Tan (arrested by Swiss police as a teenager! Mother threatened her life with a knife! Lyme disease!), she sure seems cheerful and clear-eyed.

I’ve always felt a kinship with Amy Tan. She is the daughter of Chinese immigrants; I’m the daughter of German immigrants. She understands going to school and being different from the other kids, having parents who are different. She is the same age as me, and she married her husband around the same time I married mine. I feel like we’ve lived parallel lives.Amy Tan would be annoyed I presume to know her. In Where the Past Begins, she says, “I am not the subject matter of mothers and daughters or Chinese culture or immigrant experience that most people cite as my domain.” Oops. That’s entirely what I think about her books. So apparently, I’m mistaken. I don’t get her at all. She goes on to explain, “I am a writer compelled by a subconscious neediness to know, which is different from a need to know. The latter can be satisfied with information. The former is a perpetual state of uncertainty and a tether to the past.” Tan writes to understand who she is in this world. She often explores old family stories in her work, copiously researching to learn what is historically accurate and how circumstances impacted the people who came before her.Where the Past Begins grew out of Tan’s editor, Daniel Halpern’s, suggestion that she write a book about her process, based on “some of the thousands of e-mails I bombarded him with during the writing of The Valley of Amazement.” Tan didn’t like the concept, and I’m glad because the book is so much more; the one chapter that consists of some of the e-mails is not as interesting to me as it was to Mr. Halpern. The rest of the book blends together the story of her life, her parents’ lives, and even her grandmother’s too-short life; it’s fascinating reading. Much of her writing process is described, especially concerning The Valley of Amazement. I am comforted somehow to learn that Tan suffers from the same insecurities that I and so many of my writer friends do—that the current project will never be finished, that it won’t be good enough…There are photographs, too. Some of her grandmother, her parents, young Amy and her brothers, and pictures Tan has drawn. I love the pictures of Amy in the 1950s; they could have been me in my fluffy-skirted dresses. Her Christmas picture shows a tree decorated just like the ones from my childhood, with individual strands of tinsel meticulously hung from the branches; my family owned a TV just like the one standing in the corner of the Tan living room.Tan details some of the devastating pain in her life: the deaths of her older brother and her father from brain tumors within six months of each other when she was a teen; her mother's battles with mental illness and Alzheimer's disease. There are surprises, as well: I didn’t know Tan has a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Masters and Ph.D. in linguistics.Reading Where the Past Begins makes me want to reread her earlier (2003) memoir, The Opposite of Fate. I suspect some of the same facts appeared there, but I’d forgotten.Where the Past Begins is well worth the investment of time and money, especially if you like Tan’s novels. As a lily-white American of European heritage, I found reading about Tan’s family history compelling and enlightening.

Utterly fascinating and informative read. As a writer, it got my mind really thinking even further about the process. Amy Tan is an honest, superb writer whatever she writes. Anyone aspiring to write should read this, and anyone interested in the writing process should read it, too.

Eric Muller's Colors of Confinement skillfully presents a multifaceted montage, integrating the insights of an historian, an expert on photography, and a former prisoner of Heart Mountain. The contributors demonstrate that Kodachrome images of Japanese American incarceration can offer a deeper understanding of the WRA camps, even as they raise troubling questions about memory, representation, and meaning.--Lane Ryo Hirabayashi, University of California, Los AngelesI was imprisoned at Heart Mountain when I was twelve, so my memories of camp life are still vivid. I just received my copy from Amazon today, so I haven't had a chance to read all of the essays yet. From what I've seen thus far, though, I think the text is going to do justice to the images. And that's saying something. The book is high-quality coated paper throughout, with excellent printing and binding as one expects from the UNC Press. The images are beautifully presented, nearly full-page in size in most cases. This is a collection of vivid full-color Kodachrome images taken by a young Japanese-American man who was interned at the Heart Mountain, Wyoming, camp during World War II. He captured everyday life in the camp, and its environs, and these color images bring it to life amazingly. I've read many books and seen many images - photographic and drawn/painted - by internees, as well as accounts by anthropologists in some of the camps, but these are real eye-openers.As those who lived and experienced the events of the Second World War are leaving us, it is especially important to preserve and present to new audiences the documents of those experiences. This book is an outstanding contribution to that effort.

When I teach "A Separate Peace" to my sophomore English students, I make every effort to immerse them into the culture of World War II on the home front. We watch "Casabalanca," Walt Disney's "Der Fuehrer's Face," the Andrews Sisters singing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," Abbott and Costello's classic "Who's on First" routine. I show clips of Ken Burn's "The War" that talk about rationing, war bond drives, and Pearl Harbor.Perhaps the most poignant scene is Daniel Inouye's first-hand account of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This, of course, leads to a discussion of the Japanese-American internment camps.Detractors would say that this book sugar coats the experiences of more than 100,000 Japanese-Americans who were placed in these relocation centers for much of the war. Granted, the photos do little to show the hardship and isolation of life in the camps. Even living conditions--cramped quarters, communal latrines--are not the intent of this book. What it does show is the spirit and determination of the incarcerated to provide a sense of normalcy to their daily lives. With more than 70 photos--all but a handful in color and most of them full-page--Bill Manbo's images are a testament to the ability to retain humanity under inhumane conditions. Manbo and his family were sent to the camp at Heart Mountain in Wyoming in 1942 where these photos were taken.Sure, there are pictures of guard towers (p. 45), the starkness of the barracks and the landscape (p. 26), and a moving image of the photographer's son clutching a barbed-wire fence at the edge of the camp. However, most of the scenes are much more cheerful: dancers in traditional attire, parades, ice skating, residents wrestling in the sumo ring, family outings...and lots of family photos. In addition to the photos, there are three essays: "A Youngster's Life Behind Barbed Wire," "Camera in Camp" and "Unexpected Views of the Internment." Each essay is about ten pages. If you think you know everything about the Japanese-American internment experience, this book will shine a light in corners you haven't seen before. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

First color images of a Japanese Relocation camp are the most vivid way to see camp life. My sansei experience was only through words and black and white photos until Colors of Confinement opened my eyes. This beautifully photographed book fleshed out the lives of the Internees. I can recommend this book to everyone. This is a wonderful view of life and shows the strength and courage of so many Japanese Americans who are simply loyal Americans.

I am 81 years old and was one of the "internees" in a Concentration Camp in Granada Colorado for almost 4 years. Since we were not allowed cameras in our Camp, this pictorial book is a treasure trove of pictures of what Camp Life was for me at the age of 9-14.Great book of historical value!

Although I am a fan of black and white photography, this book of color photos is very striking. The backstory and the family upon which the majority of the photos are based (a father capturing with photos his young 6 year old son at the camp) will go to your heart. If one hasn't really thought about or known someone who was placed in the internment camp then perhaps you can identify with this young family of American citizens who lost everything and were placed in these camps for no crime. Honest, tax paying, patriotic people who got swept up and put in camps under the direct order of President Franklin D Roosevelt and then CA Gov Earl Warren. The only crime these Americans were guilty of was their ethnicity. Imagine that you were told that you had two weeks to get rid of your house, your business, your belongings and to report with your family to the authorities. Sent by train to a distant part of the country and forced to stay until the duration. This is an ideal book to have at home that will spark conversation -especially among young people who need to understand this dark chapter of American History. A great companion to this book would be to find one on the 442 'Go For Broke' Regimental Combat Team comprised of Japanese American citizens who volunteered to fight -despite the fact that many of them had families interred in the camps. Starting in 1944 this unit is considered to be the most decorated infantry regiment in the history of the US Army winning 21 Medal of Honors, 8 Presidential Unit Citations for Valor, etc earning it the name 'The Purple Heart Battalion.'

Amazing look at the past that puts the landscape I grew up looking at wondering what was once there and why. A horrible moment for so many loyal Americans scared by hysteria of war and racism that should never be repeated. This is a great color photo collection that brings context to history that can be utilized in any U.S. History course.

I have been studying for the MCITP Enterprise Admin. I have been in the IT field for a long time and have read dozens of books. These books are good for passing the exams. They aren't anywhere near as detailed as the Unleashed books from Sams Publishing (the Orange books that go into MASSIVE detail), but they are to the point to pass the exam. You won't learn how Windows Server 2008 actually works under the hood, but you will learn what you need to pass the exams. If that is your goal, this is a good series to get. It's also a great product to start your training of Server 2008. Don't let it be the last books you buy because you won't know everything you need to know to do the job. The picture in the listing isn't quite right. The product matches the description, not the picture. 70-646 is NOT included, 70-643 IS included so don't be thrown off by this as I was after I ordered it and already had the 70-646 book. The Amazon price is incredible and you won't find it better anywhere else - trust me, I've looked. So, if you are planning on getting this, stop your search here and just buy it from Amazon. This set also includes 4 x 15% off vouchers for the exams. That brings the exam prices down to $106.25 each from $125.00. That will save you $75.00 so really it's even cheaper than the price listed! Happy reading!

I have read the first book. OK, but not spectacular. THEN, I tried to take tests. I could usually finish the review tests, but I only have 50% success rates with the certification test. The 50% failure? I get two seperate types of errors. They occur regularly during scoring of the finished test. After 2 hours of tearing my hair out to figure out the answers, the test crashes. First it crashes on Vista with printer errors. I can not print any questions, or answers. But at least I can get a score.I read that some of these errors are caused by Vista (which is hilarious, since these tests cover the server version of Vista). So, I setup a virtual XP window. I then took another 2 hours to run the test in the XP virtual machine, and this time it popped up an "Unanticipated error on timer" and updated it every second. I clicked and clicked on the OK and cancel buttons, but I could never keep up with the flood of error windows popping up. I found ridiculous answers on the internet from the software company that makes this program. It says "hi all: the problem turns out to be related to User Account Control somehow".. then he goes on to recommend to uninstall it, then toggle the UAC to on or off, then reinstall it. Then he has the gall to say "Sorry about that."... then he says "Have A Great Day!"I know this is a canned signature, but I almost threw my monitor out my second floor window when I read the 'Sorry about that' followed by "Have a Great Day" from a customer support person.I normally don't bother to complain about something like this but after paying almost 200 dollars then I can not successfully take 1 test (so far) in 3? And the company is not offering any repair updates, or anything? I just can't stand it.I just want to take the tests, and IF IT CRASHES, I want to be able to save the results and recover them and print them out again. that is just poor design. If you purchase these tests, please load the software and click on random answers as you run through it a few times. If you get a crash, then think hard if you want to take lots of 2 hour tests, and NEVER GET ANY ANSWER OR SCORES!!!!!how upsetting that is.Calvin E. Thomas

WARNING: JUST MAKE SURE THESE TESTS ARE STILL BEING OFFERED BEFORE YOU BUY THE BOOKS!That being said ...Certification classes glaze over generalized topics, giving you an idea of what you're supposed to know for the test and then say "well just take practice tests before you take your test" to get themselves off the hook for charging you so much. These books actually cover the subjects you need to know and understand in depth, and in terms anyone in IT can understand. If you can find the time to read all these (and a quiet place to study), and follow along with the exercises using Virtual Machines (many are free), those practice tests won't seem anywhere near as intimidating and impossible. My only criticism: the included install disks do NOT come with any activation codes. This was probably left unresolved because the server disks last for so long before you have to actually activate. This means you won't get to actually practice KMS, but that's a drop in the ocean compared to the rest of what you need to know.

I've only read the first two books so far.I'm a visual learner. Microsoft seems to be going the way of requiring more be done at a command prompt vs. with a GUI. While this is a good thing for automation purposes, it's going back to the days where people have to memorize commands. While this, in itself, is not a reflection on the authors of the books, I would appreciate more screen-shots and more conceptual drawings to drive-home the teachings. The good: It's a great value. I could have spent more money on other books and practice exams that wouldn't have provided as much value. Plus, there's a coupon inside giving you 15% off of all the exams (worth ~$60)!Make sure you look-up the Microsoft KB article listing all the errors in the books before reading them! There are several.

I'm going through the first few lessons now and at the end of each lesson it suggests that you take a practice test to reinforce what you've learned. Well there is NO WAY to take a test for just that lesson. The practice test includes topics from ALL over the book and the program is poorly designed. It's like it was designed by a programming student reading a "Programming for Dummies" book.So answering most of the questions is tough. It's demoralizing to say the least.I think I'll look for other testing programs before actually taking the tests. The quality of the books content is tough to say since it's hard to take a test directed at what you've read.

This Pack is amazing. Has the four books used on MCITP certification. Has a good cost-benefit and a DVD with a lot of extra material. Recommend to everyone.

#117 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I’ve never read a book that resonated with me on such a personal level. I struggle to understand why, and what I keep coming back to is that all-too frequently this world we live in has me feeling overloaded, overwhelmed, and off-kilter. This book feels like an oasis of peace in the swirl of a hurricane. I savored many of the chapters, and found that Maria’s words kept bringing me “back to center.” I’ve Been Thinking is, quite simply, a wonderful book, and it will be a permanent fixture on my nightstand.

I'm 65, recently retired and lost in this confusing world now. When I saw Maria Shriver on the "Today" show, listening to her about this new book, I knew I needed to read it. It inspires hope in what will come in the future. I've started rosary meditation with this new year beginning, and it has calmed me down. She focuses on issues, some of us have at this time in life. This 24/7 news cycle, keeps me on edge, kids moving out and starting families of their own, and my own moving out of my house and living a simpler life. Being alone a lot and missing family time, busyness and jobs keeping us separated from one another. But she inspires me to have Hope. Hope that this is but a moment in time, thingswill get better. I'm sure I will re-read her book over and over as I re evaluate my life and how I want my story to read. She has given me HOPE. Thank you Maria.

In this personal, honest book, Maria Shriver welcomes us into her thought processes, her life, and what she’s learned. While reading my review copy, I felt as if she’d invited me over for a cup of tea to talk about her life. The book contained so many pearls of wisdom from her, and from countless other deep thinkers—poets, philosophers, and more—people of diverse faiths, beliefs, and professions, who offered words that we can all live by. Written in short readable chapters with Shriver’s own prayers at the end of each, it’s perfect for periods of meditation. She touches on aspects of human life that we all experience—gratitude, regret, joy, family truths, mental health, aging, empty nesting, sorrow, happiness, mothering, rest, and reflection. This will be a book that I underline, re-read, give to others, and keep by my bedside.

This is a beautiful book, both inside and out. Maria touches on what really makes life meaningful and reflects on what is needed to live a life that matters. I especially resonated with her thoughts about entering a new phase of motherhood--one that requires letting go of the ties to our children as they venture on their own. What I like most about this book is that you can open it to any page and instantly find bits of wisdom that will guide you through your daily life.

One of the best books I have read. Starting to read it a 2nd time. Can relate to so much in each chapter. Makes you want to stop and think about things in your life and how to change it. I now read ma chapter every day before going to school to teach

While I much appreciated Maria's honesty, her sincerity, and her writing, this book just didn't resonate with me personally. I think the intent of the book is to serve as a nightstand motivation read that you can reach for and get bite sized pieces of wisdom and motivation. The book is broken up into various topics including change, aging, gratitude, love, etc, with each topic spanning no more than 1-3 pages, followed by a daily prayer at the end. I liked the fact that Maria stated up front for the reader to take what works for them from her writing, and leave the rest while also acknowledging that "God" as she references in the book means something different to each person. So, while there was alot to like, this book for me personally, just wasn't substantive enough to make it one that I would reach for when I need a substantive dose of inspiration. My personal feeling was that it felt alot like cotton candy, soft, sweet and pleasant for the first 5 seconds, but left me wanting more. Beautiful sentiments, just not much lasting substance that I felt I could use.

I HAVE ALL BUT ONE OF MARIA SHRIVER'S BOOKS. SHE IS A WONDERFUL WRITER AND A COMPASSIONATE PERSON. I ENJOYED ALL HER BOOKS. I HOPE SHE CONTINUES WRITING. SHE DID A WONDERFUL JOB RAISING HER KIDS. YOU NEVER HEAR ANYTHING BAD ABOUT THEM AND THEY WERE NEVER IN THE NEWS. SHE WRITES AS THOUGH SHE WERE TALKING WITH THE PERSON READING THE BOOKS. THEY ARE A JOY TO READ. DEFINITELY WORTH BUYING.

This is not your regular self-help book; nor a kiss and tell; and not a "poor me" look at what I've been through in my life book. Rather Maria Shriver becomes a gentle guide rowing our life boat through trials and tribultation in the river of life. Maria becomes a "sharing sister," opening up about her observations and experiences of life to the reader. Her courage to share allows the reader to relate to similiar situations in their life. The book is filled with grace, love, and care of the subjects she addresses. I highly recommend "I've been thinking..." as a gift to a friend or a gift to yourself.
