But you better read it once it arrives or someone may accuse you of procrastinating.

Through examples and even exercises...always a favorite of mine....he offers honest step by step advice. If you feel your business or even your life, in general, could benefit from staying more focused, getting organized or maybe managing your time more efficiently........this book is for you.

I have read a LOT of good books on different religions over the years - some of them written by Dr. Flowers- and this is among the best of the best. It starts out discussing the details of traditional Zoroastrian faith and Iranian history, which makes the book worth it's cover price alone- then it continues with discussing the creation of a Western form of Zoroastrianism (apparently one of the reasons why "orthodox" Zoroastrianism has fallen upon hard times in the far east, besides Islam, is that it does not accept converts?) where those interested in the faith can practice it. Flowers notes that due to the extreme age of Zoroastrianism, and the undercurrent it had in terms of influencing other faiths- from paganism to Judaism and Christianity- that there are facets to the faith that may appeal to people of those religions- which were influenced by it. (As an Indo-European religion it runs concurrent with and not counter to, Asatru or Druidry for example.) Many books on Zoroastrianism come across as "dry" or overly scholarly. Not this one. While it is academically sound it's a truly warm and delightful read, whether you are interested in comparative theology or are looking for a spiritual path for yourself. Highest possible recommendation.

Not the angry and jealous old man in the sky who likes to spy on people and torture in a pit of fire anyone who questions him. Perhaps you have already overcome such archaic modes yourself and have already made the pursuit of consciousness the center of your spiritual quest; Well guess what - that in fact WAS the original religion. As Flowers says, it is the ‘gold standard’ of religions, and if you dig deep enough in any of them the gold of Zarathushtra will eventually shine through. Flowers summarizes the nature of Zarathrustra’s astounding accomplishments nicely by noting he was:• The First Prophet of a Universal Monotheistic Religion• The First Theologian• The First Philosopher• The Originator of the ideas of Universal “Human Rights”• The First Defender of the Oppressed• The First Conscious Environmentalist• The Originator of Women’s Rights• The Originator of the Idea of Animal Rights• The First To Discover the “Power of Positive Thought”• The Originator of the Practice of Silent MeditationBut it would be wrong to think of this as just another religious way. Rather, it is being presented more as a sort of solution to the problem of so many different ways. As he states, “Many thinking persons have wondered at the plurality of religions in the world and pondered: ‘They can’t all be right, or wrong.’ Furthermore it seems ludicrous to say that a good person, who just happens to follow a religion different from one’s own, should be thought to be damned to hell because he is in the ‘wrong religion.’ The Mazdan Way sweeps all of this nonsense away. All people regardless of what religion they profess, who practice Good Thoughts, Good Words and Good Actions in a conscious way, are in reality Mazdans.” I don’t think anyone growing up in contemporary culture hasn’t marveled at this same double standard, at least for a moment in childhood. Why do children ask such questions? Perhaps because there is an irrefutable spark of truth to them which can only be smothered by the force and group-think of conventional organized religion.One thing that might help make Zoroastrianism easier to renovate than many other ‘dead’ religions is that it never actually died. It survived in remote Indo-Iranian cultural streams like Iran, and in western India (Bombay/Mumbai) with a sect called the Parsis. After reading the book, go do some searching for these ideas on YouTube and you will see that these remote groups aren’t really that remote anymore. Unlike many other religions Zoroastrians don’t have a problem with technology, progress, innovation, and so forth. And if you’ve read some of Flowers previous works you’re probably familiar with ideas about patterns of historic Indo-European migration cycles, and so seeing that all roads lead back to Persia, Cyrus the Great, Aryans and Zoroaster is really only one step further in the direction of truth.Brief commentators like to make over simplified summations of Zoroastrianism, saying this is where fundamental monotheistic ideas like a single creator god, heaven and hell, and an immortal soul come from. But reading the The Good Religion you begin to see what an oversimplification this is. Somehow Zoroastrianism has managed to hang on to ideas like individuality, sovereignty, free will and consciousness – things that none of the major religions of the world seem really concerned with anymore (or in some cases are actually working against) and things that the Left-Hand Path thought it was alone in championing over the last few decades. Reading The Good Religion, you begin to realize that really the first great religion of the world WAS Left-Hand Path, but something got lost along the way. Then you start to get a sense of how important the publication of this book is at this point in history and this place in civilization.What got lost and why? How did all the world’s religions spring from this central source, only to become systems of fear, hatred, oppression, warfare, coercion and control? One fundamental theme in The Good Religion is the idea that the real world (the world we all live in) and Man are essentially good in nature. This would seem to put the world view of Zoroastrianism in opposition not only to Judaeo-Christianity/Islam (doctrine of original sin), but also Buddhism (the world is illusion) Neo-Platonism (the world is an impure distortion), Kant (the world is indiscernible chaos) etc. For Zoroastrianism, the world is fundamentally good, it simply has a little bit of evil in it. Pretty easy to believe actually. Evil is understood as negative attitudes, defeatism, hatred, anti-consciousness etc. The things that any rational person would agree is evil, nothing to do with pedantic attempts to micro-manage our diet or sexual behavior. Z’s prescription for combating evil is not striking back with a greater evil – which has been the favored methodology of Kings and Popes for the last 2000 years - but rather the three-fold effort of Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds. In other words, just focus on the good, the conscious, and the harmonious, and remember that like-begets-like.The culmination of all this work is the formation of the Occidental Temple of the Wise Lord, or a western adaptation of Zoroastrian practice, or rather what is called “The Mazdan Way” in order to free the ideas from a specific cultural or ethnic context. First the story is great. But I am pissed I bought both these books AND THEY ARE THE SAME BOOK! With different covers and titles! What the heck is with that!

Lauren Weisberger never disappoints and she doesn’t with “When Life Gives You Lulumons...” either. It’s the perfect beach day read, or a night in. I read it in one sitting and laughed out loud. The return of Emily after a few years of marriage and a lot of growing up is delightful. And the bits where Miranda Priestly returns are actually a riot. Add 2 best friends, one very monstrous husband and mix them with the Über wealthy Connecticut mommy competitiveness and you've got a jewel of a book. My only negative...I read it so quickly and now I have to wait till the next book from Lauren.

I liked “The Devil Wore Prada” because it was an out-of-the ordinary plot. This book, however, quickly evolved into the lost love/strong survivor clique that characterizes so much of so-called women’s literature. Couple that with one character’s perfect husband and another’s almost perfect husband and there’s not a lot of tension to move things forward. Not the worst of this genre but still pretty contrived.

Amusing premise but much more hyperbolic character stereotyping than satire or wit. Predictable. Ok for light beach reading.I think the author has taken this series as far as it can/should possibly go.

I read this because the book club I am in wanted to read something "fluffy". (Personally, I like "heavy" things.) Yep, our book club got just what the suggestor wanted. A light and airy, fluffy, meaningless, let's go get our nails done, to hell with reading good stuff book.

First of all, let me say that I love “chick lit”. I really honestly like this kind of books and read many, some are better than others. This book is well written and entertaining, but I found it really problematic and dated. I can’t believe that in the year 2018 we have to read how these “sexy/ attractive/ beautiful” women have to “starve” to be in shape. I find it really dangerous. Not only that, Emily (who is the main character and maybe our heroine?) not only recommends starvation but also diet coke (which she even gives to a 5 year old saying that it is “good for you”), pills and cigarettes. Sigh. I understand that she is sarcastic, but there should be some character or commentary about these being really unhealthy habits. And the other issue that I wish had been dealt with less “naturalization” was that of vagina plastic surgeries: to each their own, but there are many health professionals that claim that they are dangerous, and they perpetuate an image of women that is ridiculous: wanting to look and feel like a “teenager down there” sounds like something a really insipid woman would say. I really found the book and the characters funny, and I understand that this is fiction, but they seemed a lot older than they are. I am 39 and I think that I am much more modern than these ladies. They remind me of my mother, who is on her sixties.Do not buy if you are expecting a Devil Wears Prada sequel. This is not it. If they hadn’t mentioned Runway a couple of times (and Miranda), it wouldn’t have made a difference. This book stands alone.My conclusion is: If you are a well-adjusted adult who knows who she is, please, by all means read this book! I love this book! I purchased three books for Easter recitals and plays from Amazon,and this one by far was the best! I actually haven't even used the other two. The poems are either short and sweet or semi long with a great message. I have given each of the children in my Youth ministry a poem out of this book to recite for our Children's Easter Program. I am sure if you are a youth ministry worker or you just want a good poem book for your young children to share the sacrifice of Christ you will love this book.

There are a lot of ideas crammed into way to short a story to really be good. Like the first volume it falls way short of the character's potential as seen in the original wildstorm omnibus (Which is worth every penny). It's a real shame becuase the character could fit really well in the DC universe, especially if he interacted with someone like deathstroke who could hang with him in a fight.

This guy gets it! A character whose sexuality is PART of who he is, not his defining characteristic. He is flawed, dynamic, hilarious, relatable, and his relationship with Apollo is so wonderful. I have never felt more represented by a comic book character <3

Orlando's run of Midnighter is a lot of fun to read. It's over the top with violence and gets good amount of humor out of the characters, too. This paperback has the final five issues of the series and three from the WildStorm series. Definitely a good read for any fans of the title character and Orlando's work.

OH. MY. GOD. This book was absolutely STUNNING. Let me give you five reasons on why I’m rating this book five stars:Preface: I know for a fact that some readers are going to say “This book had too much drama” or “This book was predictable” or “These characters were immature” or along those lines. The drama part is true, so come into the book with that expectation in mind. My main point is that this is a total rom-com, and thus, romance is a focal point to this book (as well as hella character development). What can I say? I’m weak for fluffy romantic comedies. ESPECIALLY when they feature marginalized characters.1. The dialogue = PERFECT??Right off the bat, something about Sharma’s writing and I just CLICKED. The dialogue was incredibly believable and witty and real. The transitions of the conversation and back-and-forth was just so smooth and had this natural flow that kept me reading. There was just some spark - I honestly don’t know how to fully explain it - in the characters’ dialogue that paved the way for an instant connection with me.2. Exploration of kismet (to follow destiny, or not to follow?)“‘Because those who fight destiny, who fight what’s written in the stars, always end up having the hardest struggle.’”The book follows Winnie’s belief in a prophecy that she will meet her soulmate before her 18th birthday. The prophecy also states that their name will being with an “R,” and they will give her a silver bracelet. This belief shatters when Winnie’s “break” with her current boyfriend (and soulmate?) Raj ends up in Raj cheating on her. From here, she finds herself lost. What is destiny? How true is it, really? And is there some way to escape the cycle? I thought Sharma’s exploration of this concept through Winnie’s thoughts was really well-done and extensive - especially for a teenage girl that isn’t quite sure of her future.3. Winnie and her fierce family = A+Wow, words cannot describe how much I enjoyed Winnie’s family. Her mother and grandmother are so fierce and bedazzling! I also adored seeing the little tidbits of the family’s traditions and customs (woohoo, #ownvoices novel!) that are included in her narrative. (Also, all the food that was mentioned?! I NEED to go to a Dosa Hut one day.) Her mom, dad, and grandmother may be strict sometimes, but also exceptionally supportive of her life decisions. Their interactions were always a blast to read.4. Dev aka A BOLLYWOOD-WORTHY ROMANCE“‘As much as I love Bollywood damsels in distress, I don’t need saving. I’m my own hero.’”Y’ALL. THIS SECTION. WILL BASICALLY JUST BE ME FANGIRLING.No but for real. While a love triangle is low key advertised in the blurb, there’s really only one viable love interest that readers root for. Dev is literally all your favorite, soft rom-com heroes wrapped into one character. He’s been in Winnie’s life since starting high school, but they kind of have a disconnect after she starts dating Raj. This book explores their reconnection and his courtship, now that Dev has a chance with her. And I LOVED every single moment of it. This boy was SO suave and charming (but not in a pretentious way) and soft! All their dates were cute with a capital “C,” and it was so sweet to see him go out of his way to make sure Winnie had a great time. AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED WITH THE DANCING. (Note: Dev isn’t quite a Bollywood fan but a guy’s gotta do what he’s gotta do when wooing a girl who IS one.)5. Follow your passions - whether it’s your love life or your future.“Screw pandits and star charts and prophecies. Sometimes you have to trust yourself and let destiny follow.’”Winnie has these hilarious dreams with Shah Rukh Khan (aka the King of Bollywood), where she’s placed in one of his iconic movie scenes. A lot of the time it’s him giving her life advice through quotes from his own movies (LOL). It was a really great addition though, because it added a layer of dialogue to her introspection on how to forge her decisions and actions. Her passion in film was very evident in her film critic blog and dedication to the film club, but her love life was not so clear. Although I can’t relate to Winnie on the emphasis of romance during senior year, I was super empathetic with her thoughts on the future. I loved that she put her foot down when Raj tried to convince her to sacrifice her dream school. And while some parts of this aspect of the story were unrealistic to me (can’t way because of spoilers), I thought it was the perfect fit to the story’s overall atmosphere and tone.Finishing this book just made me want to watch more Bollywood movies. MY SO-CALLED BOLLYWOOD LIFE was delightful and full of fun. Sharma writes a sugar-sweet story of a high school senior trying to pave her own destiny, and finding love on the way. It’s light and lovely and bursts with character development and swoony times. 11/10 would recommend contemporary readers to pick this one up!

This novel was so good!! I found myself engrossed in the story and tried to find time at home and work to squeeze more chapters in. I did not know much about Bollywood, but the way the movie themes and actors were woven into the story were easy to follow. I could relate with the main character’s conflict between what her family hoped for her and what she wanted to herself. I appreciated that Winnie found a way to figure out both. I would definitely recommend this book. I couldn’t put it down!

This is a really cute book.It took me about 30 pages to actually get into it, but once I did, I was all in. My only little nitpick was that there are a lot of dream sequences. Now, I totally admit that I'm not really into Bollywood - maybe that's a Bollywood thing? But other than the dreams, I just loved the book (and yes, there's totally a dance number!!!).I adored Winnie and loved the fact that she was so cool with her heritage. This isn't one of those books where brown girl rebels against her heritage, falls in love with generic white boy, and then after misadventure, finally embraces her culture (thank god). Instead, Winnie is just perfect Indian/American teen who gets sometimes angsty (but not enough to make you throw the book against the wall), is falling for the wrong boy (who is soooo totally right), and has the most awesome BFF you ever want to meet. And she digs her own culture.Her family is adorable as well.I learned a lot about modern Indian culture, a lot about Bollywood, and now I'm waiting for my own dance number to start. (And....cue the crickets because that's so not happening!)So, a seriously fun book that will appeal to YA readers of all cultures. And now I need to rent a couple of the films mentioned in the book!Note: I originally gave this book 4 stars (the dream sequences), but amended my rating to five stars. Why? Because I've been smiling all day because of this book and now I seriously want to watch Bollywood. Much love for this one!
