Kindle version: images are too small.This is particularly bad for special chars and formulas which are rendered as images as they appear about as large as the punctuation.Normal diagrams are also small and must be viewed with the zoom function.Apologies for rating the book based on formatting, but there's no other apparent way to contact the publisher.Once the issues are resolved I will fix the rating to fix the "outlier" it has created.

Supervised machine learning only. Basically a bunch of applications for an undergrad CS class. Light on theory. Very well structured though and excellent if you want to see some applications of machine learning in action. For deeper treatment see coursera courses by Geoff Hinton of Toronto and the Stanford ML class.

I have already used machine algorithms in production with Spark and Python, but I wanted to have a better understanding of how the algorithms work and more importantly what the variations, strengths/weaknesses, and trade-offs are for each algorithm. This book was exactly what I've been looking for.The authors explain the algorithms fluidly without any reference to specific programming libraries or languages. They introduce the concepts very well before moving into the specifics of the logic and math behind the algorithms. Following a thorough explanation of how the algorithm works, the authors then describe variants and pitfalls based on their prior foundation.So, if you aren't a math major but would like to understand the concepts and details of how ML works along with practical knowledge of variants, parameter tuning, and trade-offs, then this book should be exactly what you need.Finally, the algorithms covered are the most commonly used in ML. AI isn't covered. Look at the Table of Contents to see which algorithms are explained.

Machine Learning is brilliantly explained in this outstanding book. You will learn the subject a lot better than in many other books in the market. The only downside of this book is the lack of examples with programming code, especially in Python. I strongly urge the authors to do so in a next edition. A lot in the area is learned by doing, by using good software development practices.

Great introductory book to this field. I would highly recommend this for computer scientists or other engineers looking to get an understanding of this field. I have read a number of books that are too heavy with theory and some that are a bit on the skimpy side and leave out details that are important for a true practical implementation. This has just the right mix.

I read this book as part of my ongoing research into the assassination of President Kennedy. In my opinion the conflict in Vietnam is one of the keys to unraveling this greatest of mysteries if it can even still be called a mystery today.The conspiracy theory is President Kennedy was going to end America's involvement in Vietnam once he was re-elected in 1964. And that was something the Military Industrial Complex was never going to allow to happen.The great Fletcher Prouty worked with Allen Dulles at the CIA up until the time JFK got killed. Fletcher felt there never was any real military objective in Vietnam. The goal was to create a bottomless money pit of military spending. So the CIA was doing things in Vietnam to prolong the conflict for as long as possible even if this meant getting American military personnel killed.Author and historian John M. Newman has shown how the CIA and American military intelligence were telling President Kennedy and Secretary Of Defense Robert McNamara all lies about the true state of affairs in Vietnam. But they were telling then Vice President Lyndon Johnson the truth about what a quagmire Vietnam had become and would most likely always be. So Johnson knew what was going to happen in Vietnam even before he became president.Fletcher Prouty and also James W. Douglass in his book JFK And The Unspeakable tell how the CIA had infiltrated every aspect of the power structures in Washington, DC. The CIA had their spies collecting information from all the government agencies and telling lies to everyone in the government also.I don't really see a lot in this massive book about the Pentagon Papers to make me doubt those conspiracy theories.The book says JFK continued America's involvement in Vietnam. But the fact remains that when JFK was alive and in office the number of American military personnel in Vietnam was around 16,000. And according to an official government document called NSAM 263 JFK had ordered that all American personnel should leave Vietnam in the near future.Then within a few days after JFK got killed Lyndon Johnson issued NSAM 273 which seems to be a vaguely worded document about the future policy and plans for Vietnam which could be interpreted in many different ways. It's creepy because people say Lyndon started working on the draft for NSAM 273 when President Kennedy was still alive.This book also confirms that there didn't seem to be any real military objectives in Vietnam. The stated objective was to just keep escalating the destruction against the enemy until they got discouraged.But as I said if the conspiracy theories are true the CIA knew all along that this would never happen.

Amazing to read this today, and to still see so many parallels to Iraq and Afghanistan...and possibly North Korea. So much learned, but some much that still remains hidden from the public about the behind the scenes about Vietnam.

This is one of the very best books I've read on the politics surrounding the reasoning behind the decisions made about the start of the Vietnam war. There is no doubt in my mind if JFK had lived, this war would never have taken place. JFK's second thoughts about the direction the war was taking, was one of the reasons Lyndon Johnson and certain organizations within and outside of our Gov't had him assassinated. This opinion coming from a Vietnam combat vet myself and a Vietnam war "hawk"at the time. We were all used by the "military industrial complex"-----just like Eisenhower warned the nation about just before he left office.

Valuable historical documents are available in this book for reviewing how the major events during the Vietnam war transpired. It is more beneficial when this book is read in conjunction with other Vietnam-war-era books for complete comprehensions.

It was ok. It look really new but there're lots of highlighting on the book so I cant do mine on it unless I want to change the color of the page. Overall, it was just ok for 3 stars but it came on time and looks new so I would give them 4 stars.

This book does a good job highlighting and comparing aspects of Art. 2, Art. 2A, and the C.I.S.G.. There are some typos, and a couple of poorly worded hypotheticals.

This is probably one of the worst books I have received from Amazon with outrageous amounts of writing and highlighting on almost every page of the book. I rented this book, so I wasn't expecting the book to be perfect, but MY GOODNESS this book is bad.

Awful questions at the end of each chapter, I found the Eand E to be vastly more helpful

It's hard to get a good map of Ethiopia, even online. Google Maps, for example, didn't have the slightest idea of how to get from Lalibella to Tigray, for example. It just gave up. Luckily, there are still paper maps, and this is one of the best I could find. It has good resolution, lots of detail, recent roads (as best as I can tell) and a nice color scheme for showing elevation. It is on heavy stock, water resistant paper and folds easily. I've posted a couple of photos so you can get an idea if it has what you need for your journey.

Received this magnificient book quickly--can't put it down! As a history enthusiast, martial artist and Marine Corps Infantry Veteran I thoroughly enjoy it. The first part on the history of mixed martial arts and it's foundation in Greek pankration is spot on. The second part on techniques is great and easy to follow. The visually stunning pictures of ancient Greek warriors using pankration in combat thousands of years ago are amazing and proves how this ferocious Hellenic martial art preceded all others by centuries. As a reenactor (www.TheWarriorsofGreece.com) and an avid student of ancient Greek fighting styles (in particular the Spartans) I find Jim's expert knowledge invaluable. His ground breaking self defense style ressurected pankration and set the stage for today's MMA way back in the 1960's and 70's. Its easy to see why the legendary "Father of Modern Pankration" has won so many awards and has been recognized the world over for his fighting skills. Well done Master Arvanitis! I look forward to receiving your other books! Molon Labe.

I suffered from silent reflux for years. Coughing fits that would choke me until I couldn't breathe, and constant discomfort and throat clearing that was embarrassing in the day and kept me from sleeping at night. My doctors had no solution except permanent acid blocker meds that I was addicted to and didn't even work. I was a mess. I read and followed the program and discovered what I can and cannot eat. I successfully weaned myself off of the prilosec & pantoprozole. Now my symptoms are in my control. You CAN treat this condition through diet and lifestyle. It takes some effort and commitment but is 100% worth it!

This book pretty much saved my life. I've been working as an RN doing some 12-hour shifts, and by the end of the 12 hours I had laryngitis, sounded like I was sick and was coughing or throat-clearing constantly. I felt like a complete nut for complaining about a lump in my throat and having my surgeon do an EGD and tell me that my throat was fine. I read this book, took the tests inside it, and figured out what I would need to do to get better. I bought a copy of the book for my doctor, showed her the tests results, and requested that we follow Dr. Koufman's protocol. It's been about 6 weeks, and last week I took my last Protonix pill (was taking it twice a day). It took less than a week for my cough to disappear. I was, like many people, having problems with both reflux and neurogenic cough. I did also get her book, Dropping Acid, which helped with getting off the Protonix. I've bought 5 more copies of "The Chronic Cough Enigma" to share with the health care providers both at the hospital and in the community. THANK YOU, DR. KOUFMAN! I can't say enough good things about this book.

I've been suffering a multitude of sinus problems since December 2013 which turned out to be the result of acid reflux. I think I've gone through many stages from a "hell-ified" experience with terrible terrible post nasal drip, chronic coughing, no sleep for months/weeks at a time...on top of that I ended up being hospitalized for severe anemia due to fibroids....so my long journey with this acid reflux crap has taken me through crazy, overwhelming stages in addition to the "female issues". After damaging results after seeing an ENT in the beginning stages, I said "F" it, I'm taking matters in my own hands!" On top of that he didn't even appreciate the fact that I found alternative ways that actually helped me, instead he told me to get back on the medicine he prescribed, and reluctantly I did and it made matters so much worse! But I have to say that through my diligence and desire to fix the problem I am 90% better since taking things on into my own capable hands....recently my chronic cough has finally started subsiding and I'm starting to get more sleep...THANK GOD! Through this book and the Dropping Acid Diet book I have learned quite a bit. I totally appreciate Dr. Koufman's approach and all of her research over the years....she is THE TRUTH! I've recommended both books to family and friends on my Facebook page. Sooooo, on with the cloning PLEASE, we need more doctors like her!!

I read through this short little book and most of the time I said - "That's me". I have had a chronic cough for almost 20 years. My allergist said it was asthma. My gastro guy said I had acid reflux, although I had no signs of it. So, needless to say, I have been on all sorts of medications for both as well as having multiple upper GI's so that the doctor could look to see how bad the acid reflux was. I wish I had all the money back that I have spent. It was my ENT who suggested I read the book. Then we met and he asked me what I thought about what I had read. We mutually agreed that it was the vegus nerves causing my constant cough. He put me on two medications and within 2 days, my constant, debilitating coughs are gone. I've been on these medications now for 2 months and I have not had a couging spasm since. I'm not sure about long-term with these medications, but I am elated that my cough is gone.

Brief, concise, to the point and extremely well written by a doctor who really cares! I've been on the diet and realized it was helpful after the first three days. I'm thrilled with it and very thankful to Dr. Koufman.

For years I have been coughing relentlessly unable to find a cure. I have been to over 15 different doctors over the past 10 years, and all I got were all the different asthma inhalers known to man. Thanks to this book and Dr Jamie Koufman, I am now able to lead a normal life. My cough is gone, and this book saved my life!

This book has helped both my mother and me significantly decrease our decades long coughs, which had been diagnosed as asthma, but which never responded adequately to asthma medications. However, a simple diet change has made a huge difference, and I have great hopes for further improvement. This book explained many things that I have wondered about for years, but that no doctor or nurse I asked could ever explain. As a biology professor it was very frustrating not to know what was happening. Now I understand why I cough, and how to heal my body so that I will eventually not have a constant chronic cough.I found this book more helpful than her cookbook, probably because we need to eat gluten and dairy free in my family.

I read this compilation some years ago when I was battling cancer. I had become a nonbeliever long before, but this set of writings and essays helped me clarify my thinking on the matter. Even better, it gave me confidence to admit how I had felt about religion for years to others and gave me ammunition to debate believers more easily. I am glad that Hitch took on the task or choosing and editing this compendium. Obviously, some of the essays are better than others, but the whole is better than the sum of the parts for me.

The book is a wonderful compilation of the best atheist and non-theist literature spanning a period of over two millennia. In all this, I found the essay by Penn Jillette, beginning on p. 349, to be the most apposite as I have lived the experience he describes.To wit, p. 350. “…my imaginary friend means more to me than anything you can ever say or do.”I once had a spouse say to me that God came first, not me; that time spent with God was a higher priority in all things in place of time spent with me. What this meant in practice is that Bible study came first and was a higher priority than the emotional, psychological or even physical needs of the spouse. I found that there was no appeal to reason or emotion that I could make, nothing that I could say or do, to overcome being put in a permanent second-rate metaphysical position to a fictional being by no less than a spouse to whom I had devoted the best years of my life. This is no less than brainwashing used to overturn normal human empathy, compassion and the relationship ethic for devotion to a mistaken and misguided belief in a fictional entity. If one spouse is second to God in the mind of the other spouse, the human relationship is greatly diminished. The second-rate spouse will never be able to compete with God in the mind of infected spouse. The second place is so distant as to render the lesser spouse out of sight and out of mind.This fictional entity has real power in the world of causality. It is an entity, a monster from the primitive mind, so strong as to be impervious to human reason and emotion, a malevolent, fictional yet powerful entity after all. This nicely, not for me, proves the title of Christoph Hitchens’ earlier book, ‘god is not Great, How Religion Poisons Everything’ My experience shows the height of religious arrogance where religious indoctrination replaces human relationship ethics and empathy and ruins a life. What better evidence of this can be found than in the very fact that it divides spouses?

Well written, as is everything of Christopher Hitchens, although some points may be over emphasised. This may be because I accepted the argument of a point before it was made. The book is not just for the unbeliever it is very much for the questioning believer, if such a person exists. The breadth of the references and the depth to which they are examined is amazing and very satisfying. Of course it is possible to be left in doubt on some matters but it is likely that other work by Christopher Hitchens can resolve these problems. Books by Dawkins and Harris will be excellent companions to this and the author's other publications.

What an absolute treasure trove of essential writings for those steeped in nonbelief! From Lucretius to Ibn Warraq with historical luminaries like Spinoza, Russell, Darwin, Freud, and even Lovecraft sandwiched between, this tome is definitive in it's selections, all-encompassing in it's scope, and just downright entertaining as well. The fact that Hitchens not only does the general book introduction but also the personal intros to every piece makes it all the more relevant and worthwhile. Do your questioning mind a huge favor and add it to your personal library!

I only discovered Christopher Hitchens about 1yr ago, but since that time I have been reading his works with enthusiasm. This book is not his writings of course, but a collection of writings that he finds important for non-believers. Thus, how could I turn down the advice of such a journalist.I gave the book 4 stars based purely on the fact that individuals interested in discussing such topics as religion, belief/non-belief, should, as Hitchens suggests, be somewhat versed in the more historical writings. However, from the standpoint of reading, I found this book very challenging. I have 2 advanced degress in biology/medicine, and I'm not ashamed to say that I had to read many of the passages 2 or 3x to really get an understanding of what the author was trying to say. I mention the degrees not as evidence of intelligence, only to establish that I enjoy academic pursuits.....and this book would qualify as just that! If the topic of belief/non-belief is a passion/pursuit of yours, then this book would be valuable; however, if you are looking for some light reading in the evening, this may not be the best choice.
